New local bodies system will bring revolution: PM

Prime Minister Imran Khan has said that the new local bodies system introduced by the government of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) will bring revolutionary improvements and also empower elected representatives to efficiently resolve issues being faced by respective areas.

According to details, a high level meeting was held on the local bodies system in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, chaired by Prime Minister Imran Khan.

Participants discussed the salient feature of the implementation of local government system and gave a detailed briefing on the introduction of new system.

The meeting was attended by Khyber Pukhtunkhwa (KP) Governor Shah Farman, Chief Minister Mahmood Khan, Defence Minister Pervaiz Khattak, Member National Assembly Asad Umar, KP Finance Minister Taimur Saleem Jhagra, Minister for Local Government Shehram Khan Tarakai and senior officials.

Addressing the meeting, Prime Minister Imran Khan said that under the new system, locally elected representatives would be empowered so that it is convenient to resolve the basic problems of the people.

The Prime Minister said that local governments will be the nurseries of the national leadership. Under the new system, development funds will be transferred at the local level.

Prime Minister Imran Khan further said that direct elections at the tehsil and municipal level would benefit the people and direct elections would give the people a chance to select competent representatives.
