The Prime Minister Imran Khan chaired an important meeting to control the prices of basic food items.
Makhdoom Khusro Bakhtiar, Energy Minister Umayyub Khan, Advisor to Finance Abdul Hafiz Sheikh, Advisor to Commerce Abdul Razzaq Dawood, Information Minister Punjab Mian Aslam Iqbal, Finance Minister Punjab Makhdoom Hashim Jawan Bakht and Secretary of the relevant ministries and other senior officers attended the meeting.
During the meeting, the Prime Minister was given a detailed briefing on the measures needed to control the prices of essential commodities, especially wheat and flour.
The participants gave a detailed briefing to the Prime Minister on prices of various items and said that the results of the recent measures taken by the government regarding the control of flour prices have reaped benefits.
The Information Minister of Punjab said that work was underway to set up Price Control Authority in province Punjab and will also establish fully functional committees to control illegal profits and stocks. Various other measures are under consideration, he added.
While addressing the meeting, Imran Khan said that the significant difference in the wholesale and retail prices of the commodities indicates illicit profitability, need to pay special attention to reduce this gap, he added.
The prime minister also directed officials to maintain the prices of wheat and flour and also emphasized to improve coordination among the provinces in this regard.
Prime Minister Imran Khan further said that the purpose of delaying Excel load implementation for a year for the business community was to facilitate the business community and we aim to control the prices of food items.
