Federal Government decided to make Let. Asim Salim Bajwa a new head of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) Authority.
A summary has been sent to the Prime Minister Imran Khan for the appointment of the Head of CPEC Authority.
Appointment will be approved in the next meeting of the Federal Cabinet.
Be clear that General Asim Saleem Bajwa is a retired Pakistani Three-star general who was Commander Southern Command prior to that he also served as Director General of the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
He also served as DG ISPR from 2012 to 2016 preceding Major Gen. Asif Ghafoor.
According to the sources, he will soon appoint the new head of CPEC Authority, the appointment will be issued after the Federal Cabinet.
According to sources, he is likely to be posted for four years.
Earlier in August, Prime Minister Imran Khan directed concerned authorities to expedite work on half a dozen projects of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) that have been facing significant delays.
The premier took a detailed briefing on the delayed energy and infrastructure projects of the game-changer project.
The strategic initiative came to almost a grinding halt during the past one year due to reservations expressed by cabinet and enhanced fiscal controls under the $6 billion International Monetary Fund (IMF) program.
The change in government’s priorities has also put the jobs of around 50 employees at stake who are currently working under CPEC Support Secretariat Project and CPEC Center of Excellence. Their fate hangs in balance after the government decided to set up a CPEC authority.
