IHC rejects plea against PM Imran

Islamabad High Court has rejected the plea accusing Premier Imran Khan of contempt of court for his recent remarks on the judiciary.

On Tuesday, the detailed decision was issued by IHC Chief Justice Athar Minallah.

In his remarks, Chief Justice Islamabad High Court asked the petition during the hearing, “What bothers you with the Prime Minister’s speech?” “Courts welcome criticism.” He added.

Chief Justice said that, “The contempt court is between the individual and the court

“There was no awareness before, however, people now know what contempt of court means. Do you want a trial of the elected prime minister?” Said the Chief Justice, “Are you aware of its consequences?” He added

Earlier, Salimullah Khan Advocate filed a petition in the IHC against Prime Minister Imran Khan, who is accused of rendering anti-judicial remarks.

According to the petitioner, Imran Khan’s speech falls under the category of contempt of court for which the court has been requested to fulfill the requirements of law and take action.

The court has ruled in the first hearing of the case that the registrar’s office’s objections to the petition filed against Prime Minister Imran Khan should be dismissed and the applicant has to prove how the court can hear it.

The LHC has requested that Prime Minister Imran Khan be disqualified from Parliament for giving an anti-judiciary statement, order for contempt proceedings against the PM should be sought in private and sought clarification.

Earlier on November 18, Prime Minister Imran Khan, in his speech addressed the judiciary and judges directly, saying that there should be equitable justice in the country.

He said, “I want to tell my judges Khosa and Justice Gulzar that the government will provide all the help we need. We are ready to help you.”

Talking about the judicial system, the Prime Minister said, “Our judiciary has to restore the trust of the people. The judiciary has to assure a common man that there is a law for all.”

Responding to Imran Khan’s speech, Chief Justice of Pakistan Asif Saeed Khosa said at a function that judges who object to justice should be careful, don’t let us criticize the Prime Minister.

The Chief Justice said that PM should be careful for delivering such statements, the judiciary is now free, we have punished one Prime Minister and disqualified one and the case of an Army Chief is going to be decided.
