Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa called on Prime Minister Imran Khan.

The meeting between Army chief and PM Imran held after an oath-taking ceremony of newly sworn-in Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Gulzar Ahmad held at President House in Islamabad.

Prime Minister Imran Khan and General Qamar Bajwa discussed the matters of mutual interests and prevailing situation of the country.

Earlier today, Justice Gulzar Ahmed has taken the oath as the new Chief Justice of Pakistan.

Justice Gulzar Ahmed has taken oath as the Chief Justice of Pakistan in the oath-taking ceremony held at the President’s house (Aiwan-e-Sadar) in Islamabad.

Justice Gulzar has taken oath from President of Pakistan Dr Arif Alvi.

Prime Minister Imran Khan, Chief of Army Staff Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa, Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani, and other officials have attended the ceremony.

Note that he has become the 27th Chief Justice of Pakistan.

He will remain in office till 2022.

Over 18 names of the judges from Lahore high court were sent to allow them to attend the ceremony.

Life and times of Justice Gulzar 

Justice Gulzar was born on February 2nd, 1957 in Karachi. He got fundamental education from Gulistan School

Karachi whereas he completed his graduation from Government National College Karachi.

He completed BA LLB from S.M. Law College.

He became a lawyer in 1986. He joined the high court as an advocate on 4th April 1988 whereas he became an advocate in Supreme Court in 2001.

Justice Gulzar was also selected as the Secretary of Sindh High court in 1999-2000.

He used to be in one of the top lawyers before he became a judge in Sindh high court in 2002.

He has also remained a legal advisor of several multi-national companies.

Apart from that, Justice Gulzar has expertise in Civil law, banking law, company law, and corporate sector law.

Justice Gulzar became Sindh high court judge in 2002 whereas he became a judge in Supreme Court in 2011.

He heard a number of cases including Panama case, China cutting encroachment case. Over 500 illegal buildings were demolished after encroachment case hearing.

He was also a part of benches that heard important cases including ineligibility of Talal Choudhry. His overall performance was admired.
