Coronavirus: Pakistan sets up 24×7 helpline for its nationals in China

Pakistan foreign office stated that regular contact and updates being sought from Chinese authorities and Pakistan Embassy in China is reaching out extensively to all Pakistani students and nationals.

Foreign office spokesperson Aisha Faooqui tweeted that Chinese universities have ensured free meals to all students and regular monitoring of students’ health.

Ealier, Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi has said that not a single Pakistani in China has been infected with coronavirus.

In a statement issued from Islamabad, Shah Mehmood Qureshi said that we are in constant contact with our embassy in Beijing to get latest details.

He asked the Pakistani community in China not to worry as all precautionary measures taken.

FM Shah Mehmood Qureshi asked the non-registered Pakistani students to get register with Embassy.

Meanwhile, scores of Pakistani students stuck in Wuhan, the epicentre of a novel coronavirus outbreak under virtual lockdown, face food shortage.

In a video message, they have appealed to the government to make arrangements for bringing them back home.

Hafsa Tayyab, one of the trapped students, acknowledged officials of Pakistan’s diplomatic mission in China had cooperated with them.

But, they have not been given any deadline for their evacuation from China’s high-risk areas.

Wuhan is already in virtual lockdown and severe limits on movement are in place in several other Chinese cities.

It is a city of 11 million and the epicentre of the virus outbreak in central China.

Earlier, The Prime Minister’s Office had sent a letter to the relevant ministries in view of the the possibility of spreading Coronavirus.

According to the details, the PM’s House stated that 2,000 confirmed cases of Coronavirus in China so far.

In view of the large number of people traveling between the two countries did not rule out the possibility of spreading the Coronavirus in Pakistan.

The letter further stated that the presence of large numbers of Chinese people in Pakistan so that the comprehensive strategy can set to avoid risk of spreading Coronavirus.
