Pakistani mix tea or chai is an integral part of Pakistani culture and is one of the most highly consumed beverages in the entire country which is consumed by nearly everyone, anytime and in any weather.
But are Pakistani quitting its addiction as Pakistan has witnessed decrease in import of 26.38% during the first five months of the current fiscal year (2019-20) as compared to the corresponding period of last year.
Pakistan imported tea worth US $184.361 million during July-November (2019-20) against the import of $250.413 million during the same period of 2018-19, according to the latest data of Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS).
In terms of quantity, the famous hot beverage imports during the period under review decreased by 15.54 percent by going down from the imports of 93,444 metric tons to 78,922 metric tons.
Making the traditional chai is an art and here is the authentic Pakistani doodh patti recipe:
- Milk – 2 cups
- Water – ½ cup
- Tea – 2 tsp
- Sugar – 2 tbsp
- In a pan cook milk and water until it boils.
- Then put sugar and tea.
- Now simmer it for 2-3 minutes.
- Then beat it nicely and serve hot.
