Chinese Ambassador Yao Jing and Adviser on Finance and Revenue Hafeez Sheikh have reviewed preparations of the upcoming visit of the Chinese President Xi Jinping.

According to the details, Chinese Ambassador Yao Jing called on Hafeez Sheikh in Islamabad.

During the meeting both the dignitaries discussed progress on China-Pakistan Economic Corridor and measures to enhance the bilateral trade between the two countries stating that it is progressing smoothly.

Matters of bilateral interest were also discussed and both sides agreed to enhance economic cooperation in future.

Finance adviser thanked the Chinese government on their massive support in the FATF meetings.

Hafeez Sheikh said China and other brotherly countries have supported Pakistan throughout the process in terms of guiding the country to improve its frameworks.

He condoled with the Ambassador on account of the virus outbreak. The Ambassador thanked Pakistan on the support in this difficult time.

Earlier today, Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Geng Shuang has rejected Indian media reports about any shift in China’s position and said that the Chinese side had always backed Pakistan at the Financial Action Task Force (FATF).

Geng Shuang said during his online briefing “China’s position on the relevant issue remains unchanged.”

Chinese official said Pakistan had made enormous efforts in improving its counter-terror financing system, which had been recognized by the vast majority of FATF members at its latest plenary meeting concluded on February 20 in Paris.

“It was decided at the meeting that Pakistan will be allowed more time to continue implementing its action plan”,he added.

He said that China maintained that the purpose and aim of the FATF was to support countries efforts to strengthen institutions against money laundering and terror financing and safeguard international financing system.
