Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Secretary General UN and President UNHCR held joint news conference and urged Pakistan and Afghanistan must work together for stability and peace in the region.

Addressing joint news conference, Shah Mahmood Qureshi said, The world must play a role in the return of Afghan refugees .

Shah Mahmood Qureshi said Pakistan  and Afghanistan depend on each other.

He added; Global community support for Afghan refugees returning is not upto the mark.

He continued that Pakistan need international support to coninue hosting millions of Afghan refugees.

Secretary General UN Antonio Guteress said I pay homage to Pakistan for hosting of millions of Afghan refugees.

The international community will have to cooperate with Pakistan, he said.

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Filippo Grandi applauded Pakistan for hosting Afghan refugees from last forty years.

He also expressed his views about displaced refugees. He told that More than 400 thousand refugees were displaced due to conflict, drought and other issues.

FilippoGrandi further said, Pakistan is the world’s largest refugee holding. The government’s recent decision to allow Afghanistan refugees to open bank accounts has been another step in helping them prosper in Pakistan.

Earlier, Prime Minister Imran Khan said on Monday that Islamabad is doing everything for the Afghan peace process, and also wish for its success.

Addressing International Conference on 40 Years of Hosting Afghan Refugees in Pakistan, in Islamabad, Imran Khan said there are no terrorist safe havens in the country while addressing the two-day International Conference to mark forty years of Afghan Refugees’ Presence in Pakistan.

The government and the security forces are on the same page concerning the matter, he affirmed.

Talking about Pakistan’s hospitality, Imran Khan said generosity has no connection with bank balance as the past 20 years had been economically very tough for people here.
