A Station House Officer (SHO) and two suspects killed during an exchange of fire after the Bannu police raided a base of drug dealers in the district’s Chai Bazaar.
“When we entered the bazaar, the drug dealers opened fire at us,” said the Bannu DPO Yasir Afridi.
This led to a clash between both groups during which SHO Abdul Hameed got shot and was severely injured, he added.
SHO Hameed shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
Two suspected drug dealers also killed during the encounter.
One of their accomplices arrested by the police.
“We are conducting search operations throughout the district and will soon arrest other drug dealers as well,” said DPO Afridi.
SHO Hameed’s funeral prayers offered in the Police Lines after which his body sent to his hometown Lakki Marwat.
SHO killed in Karachi
Last year in Feb, A policeman killed during an exchange of fire with drug peddlers in Karachi’s Pak Colony.
The incident took place in the limits of the Pak Colony police station.
Police officials said that the encounter took place when the police on a tip-off conducted a raid in Old Golimar during a campaign against drug peddlers.
Upon seeing the police, the armed drug peddlers opened indiscriminate fire at the police and injured a policeman.
The injured cop, Muhammad Farooq, taken to a nearby private hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
According to SHO Haq Nawaz, the police conducted a raid at a drug den of Azad, a notorious member of the Lyari gang war, but the armed drug dealers attacked the police with heavy firing.
The suspects later managed to escape following the incident.
The Deceased a resident of Liaquatabad and posted to the Pak Colony police station.
Inspector General of Police Dr Syed Kaleem Imam took notice of the killing of a policeman and sought a detailed inquiry report from SSP district Central.
He also ordered to form special police raiding teams to arrest the fleeing suspects.
