Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi said over 5000 Pakistanis have returned to homeland via 28 relief flights.
According to the data released, 768 prisoners from UAE & Oman, 176 Tableeghis from several countries, 2054 Tableeghi Jamaat members to be evacuated.
The foreign minister said in a statement government is taking major step in view of opening up of more airports for flight operation and enhancement of coronavirus testing capacity.
He said the government was fully aware from the problems of Pakistanis stranded in abroad, relevant departments including Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis and Aviation department were taking every possible measure in this regard.
He said the country was yet to touch the peak of coronavirus cases we have to prepare not only to contain the pandemic but to minimize the aftermath effects.
He said we have a fear Pakistan will witness the spike in the cases of COVID-19 by end of May and early June adding that Pakistan could not afford continuous lockdown due to possible economic crisis.
The Foreign Minister emphasized on a flexible strategy to be implemented as per ground realities.
