Minister for Railways Sheikh Rasheed has announced that Prime Minister Imran Khan has given approval to run train operations in the country from May 20.
Sheikh Rasheed met PM Imran Khan on Monday and has announced the statement during a press conference.
“If SOPs are violated in any division then I will take action against the divisional head,” said the minister, adding that a rehearsal will be done at all stations.
“If the situation remains fine during May then all trains will be opened from June 1,” said Sheikh Rasheed. He added that if SOPs are not violated then everything would remain the same.
Earlier, Sheikh Rasheed had said that he can order trains to resume operations by Tuesday but “waiting for Imran Khan to say yes first”.
He announced that ticket prices will also be reduced by 50-60 per cent once trains resume operations, even though the move will land the ministry in a loss.
He also stressed that the resumption of Pakistan Railways operation is important to facilitate the passengers on Eid-ul-Fitr.
