Let it be known that Supreme Court had quashed the decision of the government to close markets and business activities on Saturdays and Sundays and also directed to open shopping malls across the country.
The court said that the order to close business for two days was a violation of Articles 4, 18 and 25 of the Constitution.
The written order later said that if businesses and industries remained closed for a long time, their resumption would be doubtful.
The court said that if businesses and industries were not restored, millions of workers would be on the streets and it would be impossible for the government to deal with such a catastrophe. CJP Gulzar Ahmed also ordered commissioner Karachi and additional advocate general Sindh not to seal any market even if they flout to obey the SOPs.
“Instead of scaring them make them understand,” remarked the CJP, after the commissioner told the court that some markets were sealed for violating SOPs.
