Local government officials have been asked by Sindh High Court to destroy all vegetables that are being cultivated in sewage water in farms located near Karachi.
A petition was filed in the court against the growth of vegetables in sewage waters near the Malik Ravine.
Justice Mohammad Ali Mazhar has ordered the Deputy Commissioner Malir to observe the situation in the cultivation area and destroy any crops that are being grown using sewage water.
Justice Mazhar has criticized the local government that their response to the issue is not satisfactory.
Justice Mazhar remarked the judge as he asked for strategies for taking actions. He said, “Can you not ask for reinforcements from SSP and DIG police?”
The deputy commissioners had said that they will work on the order.
The complainant’s lawyer said to the court, “The land near the Malir ravine was given by the Sindh government on lease for 30 years,”
The SHC had asked, “Was the land given on lease to grow vegetables on sewerage water?”
