Young Doctors Association (YDA) on Tuesday expressed regret that the Punjab government has not medical equipment and masks to  health professionals in the province.

As per details, YDA members addressed media outside the Punjab Institute of Cardiology (PIC). While addressing the members complained that they are not being provided with medical equipment and masks amid the coronavirus outbreak,

Members of the Young Doctors Association said the hospital is not safe for coronavirus patients as the SOPs are not followed. They regretted that test results that ought to be provided in 12 hours are released in 14 days, adding 48 staffers at the PIC have contracted the deadly virus because of a lack of protective gear for healthcare workers.

“The Punjab government has not provided any facility to healthcare professionals,” the YDA members claimed, adding they have not been provided even masks as doctors discharging duty in the emergency ward of the hospital have just seven kits and 10 masks.

There are no proper arrangements for transferring and handling bodies of Covid-19 victims, they regretted. The YDA demanded of the government to provide PPE and masks to healthcare professionals.

Nationwide death toll due to the novel coronavirus has crossed 930, with confirmed cases cross 43,000, however global coronavirus deaths exceed 317,000.

National Command and Operation Center (NCOC), in its latest figures said 1,841 persons have been tested positive for COVID-19 in 24 hours. Sindh province  remains the worst-hit province by the pandemic followed by Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.

Till now 15,976 coronavirus cases have been confirmed in Punjab, 17,241 in Sindh, 6,230 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 2,820 in Balochistan, 1,034 in Islamabad, 550 in Gilgit-Baltistan and 115 in Azad Kashmir. Patients under treatment at quarantine centers of 462 hospitals where 7,295 beds are available.
