Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Health Dr Zafar Mirza has announced that the government is releasing a special package for the Coronavirus Front line workers in Pakistan.
Addressing news conference in the federal capital Islamabad, State Health Minister Dr Zafar Mirza said the government, after consultation with all stakeholders including medical associations, has prepared a package for health workers and doctors, who have been on the frontline in the fight against Covid-19.
Paying rich tribute to doctors and medical professionals, he said: “No package can match up to the sacrifices they (doctors) and their families are making, but I will present the points of this package [which is being given as] a gesture.”
He said there is a package of Rs 3 million to Rs 10 million for the deceased health workers. Corona frontline workers will be exempt from taxes. We have trained about 20,000 health workers. Some stages of training health workers have been completed
The package includes finances, security, training and their own health and other components. The package will consist of 7 groups.
Each of the groups comprises different points, he added. The highlights of the package include:
- Financial incentives
- Security of frontline health workers and doctors
- Training of medical professionals
- Support mechanism
- Healthcare of doctors and their families
- Incentives to be provided to private health sector
- Commemoration of doctors
He said the provinces will implement the package in their own way. The Corona Front line package for medical staff will be implemented on national level.
Furthermore he said that the safety of medical personnel is a top priority in dealing with coronavirus.
