On Saturday, President Arif Alvi announced to hold fresh polls in the Gilgit Baltistan (GB) on August 18.

On June 24, the Gilgit Baltistan Legislative Assembly was dissolved after completing its five-year tenure.

Under a caretaker system, president Alvi announced to hold fresh polls in Gilgit Baltistan to elect a new government in the federally-administered area.

The federal government has already named Mir Afzal, former Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) as the autonomous region’s caretaker chief minister.

It should be noted here that on June 25 Pakistan’s Election Commission (ECP) declared that it will begin preparations for local body elections across the country.
The ECP has issued a schedule for the delimitation of local government jurisdictions in this regard.

According to a notification, Pakistan’s Election Commission has formed committees in Punjab to delimit the local government jurisdictions.

The ECP instructed the provincial election commission in a notification to complete the delimitation of constituencies in 36 Punjab districts in four months.

The constituency delimitations will be completed from 6 July to 13 October, the notification reads.
