Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has tasked all municipal agencies in Karachi to make all necessary arrangements for the drainage of rainwater in the city, as many of the city’s roads and streets were damaged and submerged in water after heavy rain lashes Karachi.
CM Sindh Murad Ali Shah called on administrations of various affected districts to take care of residents who were most prone to accidents caused as a result of the rain.
The chief minister directed police to keep people from swimming in the sea, as the heavy monsoon rains could result in high tides that could cause risk to their lives.
He called on the police and district administrations to be ready for any eventuality if heavy rains continue to hit the city for the next couple of days.
CM Sindh urged the traffic police to do their part in guiding the public to take alternative routes in order to avoid traffic jams.
Meanwhile, Local Government Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah asked all the municipal officers to continue with the process of the de-silting of the rain water drains in the city.
Nasir Hussain said that municipal officials should deploy machinery to drain rainwater at the important intersections of the city to ensure the flow of traffic is not disrupted.
The information minister also urged the Sindh Solid Waste Management staffers to ensure they remained near the storm drains of the city to ensure rainwater was being drained quickly.
The minister said that special drainage arrangements should be made at all underpasses in the city.
He further told that he had constantly been in touch with Karachi’s municipal commissioners to provide emergency help during the rain.
Earlier, Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Ali Haider Zaidi has asked Bilawal Bhutto to focus on improving the situation of Karachi.
Tweeting on a social networking site, the federal minister said that the Sindh Chief Minister is always enamoured to do the press conference.
Instead of holding press conferences, the Sindh government should make arrangements for drainage, he added.
Criticizing the Sindh government, Ali Zaidi said that the government should do something if it gets a chance from corruption, drugs and land grabbing.
In the last rains, the drains were cleaned through PTI’s clean Karachi campaign and the city was saved from drowning, Ali Zaidi stated.
