US Special Representative for the Afghan Peace Process Zalmay Khalilzad met with Foreign Minister Makhdoom Shah Mahmood Qureshi at the State Department.

According to details, the situation in the region and the Afghan peace process were discussed during the meeting.

Expressing regret over the terrorist attack on the Pakistan Stock Exchange, Zalmay Khalilzad praised the timely action taken by the law enforcement agencies and the exemplary courage and bravery of the soldiers.

On the occasion, Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi said that the progress made so far in the Afghan peace process is very encouraging

Shah Mehmood Qureshi said that the readiness of the parties for inter-Afghan talks and the announcement of negotiating teams is welcome. These talks will pave the way for lasting and lasting peace in Afghanistan.

“The Afghan peace process has entered a critical phase. At this stage, we need to be suspicious of elements who want to sabotage peace efforts in Afghanistan,” he said.

The Foreign Minister said that Pakistan has been hosting Afghan refugees for the last 40 years. To ensure the honorable return of Afghan refugees, the international community must step in.

Shah Mehmood Qureshi further said that Pakistan is ready to cooperate with regional and international parties for a lasting and peaceful political solution in Afghanistan.

He said that Pakistan would continue to play its conciliatory role for peace in Afghanistan with sincerity while fulfilling its shared responsibility.

Foreign Secretary Sohail Mahmood and Pakistan’s Special Representative for Afghanistan Ambassador Muhammad Sadiq were also present in the meeting.
