SC seeks report from Federal Government on Pakistan Steel Mills

Chief Justice Gulzar Ahmed while expressing anger over the management of Pakistan Steel Mill said that not all the employees can be fired, the plan made regarding the steel mill is just a disaster.

According to the details, the Supreme Court on Thursday heard a case related to Pakistan Steel Mills.

During the hearing, the court has sought a report from the federal government regarding the steel mill.

The Additional Attorney General told the court that the cabinet had not even decided to fire all the employees.

The judge said that if the employees were evicted in this manner, 5,000 cases would be registered.

Lawyer Steel Mill employees told the court that Rs 40 billion would be required for the dismissal of employees.

The Chief Justice expressed his doubts that Pakistan Steel Mills may have to rehire sacked employees.

The Supreme Court has adjourned the hearing of a case related to the promotion of steel mill employees for a month.

Other arrears, including the retirement of employees, are Rs 40 billion and the government has given Rs 92 billion to the mill since 2008. The steel mill has been in a continuous deficit since 2008 and shut since 2015.

Out of the total 18,642 acres of Steel Mill, 8,000 acres have been allotted for Steel Town.

The management of Steel Mills has requested the court to evacuate Steel Town from the occupants with the help of police and Rangers.
