A five-day nationwide polio eradication campaign begins on Monday during which 40 million children below five years age will be administered anti-polio vaccine across the country.
This is the first nationwide campaign in the country after its four-month suspension due novel Coronavirus outbreak.
The scope of this campaign seeks to vaccinate all children under the age of five through door-to-door visits by almost 270,000 polio workers all over the country.
The polio workers have received comprehensive training on how to vaccinate children safely by minimizing the threat of COVID-19 pandemic.
The polio eradication programme has put strict measures in place for all staff following the government’s set guidelines on Coronavirus precautionary measures.
Earlier, another polio case had been reported in Balochistan, taking the provincial tally of cases to 19.
Moreover, the second province-wide polio campaign drive is all set to begin in Sindh from today.
The campaign was inaugurated by the Sindh Health Minister Dr. Azra Fazl Pechuho.
Addressing the inauguration ceremony, she said the campaign would be conducted from September 21 to September 27 by the Emergency Operation Centre (EOC).
The polio drive will be carried out in all the 29 districts of the province.
The drive will cover around 9.15 million children under the age of five years, who will be administered the oral polio vaccine, the minister said.
She also added that 2.2 million children would be vaccinated in Karachi alone.
