Government files petition in IHC seeking appointment of Kulbhushan Jadhav’s lawyer
The government of Pakistan has filed a petition in the High Court...
Tomorrow on Thursday, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) will take up a case related to the appointment of Kulbhushan Jadhav’s defense counsel.
According to details, Chief Justice Athar Minallah, Justice Amir Farooq, and Justice Mian Gull Hassan Aurangzeb, a larger bench of the high court, will hear Kulbhushan’s case. However, the IHC has not received any reply from the Indian Embassy in Islamabad, neither anyone has submitted power of attorney on its behalf.
Pakistan’s Attorney General Khalid Jawed Khan and the leading lawyers appointed amici curiae in the case, have not filed any response.
In its Aug 7 verdict, the IHC had said,
“We appoint Mr. Abid Hassan Manto, Mr. Hamid Khan, Senior Advocates of the Supreme Court and former presidents of the Supreme Court Bar Association, and Mr. Makhdoom Ali Khan, Senior Advocate Supreme Court and former Attorney General of Pakistan, as amici curiae for our legal assistance in general and, in particular, to ensure that the judgment of the International Court is effectively implemented.”
It is pertinent to mention here that the federal government filed a petition on July 22 in the IHC seeking appointment of defense counsel for Kulbhushan Jadhav.
