The military leadership had made it clear to all Pakistan’s political leaders that it has no involvement in the political and electoral issues. Further clarifying the issue, the military leadership said all the tasks belong to the political leadership, whether it is to reform the NAB or bring electoral reforms.

To support its stance, the military leadership said that the Pakistan Army has always supported the civil administration in accordance with the constitution, and will continue to do so.

In the previous week, Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa and DG ISI Lieutenant General Faiz Hameed had a meeting with the parliamentary leaders. According to the sources, the military leadership took the firm step during the meeting and made it clear to them that the Army has nothing to do with the direct or indirect political or electoral matters.

The military leadership had emphasized keeping the Army away from the politics but made one thing crystal clear that it will always support the country according to Pakistan’s constitution. It was decided in the meeting that whether Gilgit-Baltistan will be made a province or not, its status should be decided by the political parties.

It is pertinent to mention here that on Sunday, the PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif addressed the All Parties Conference (APC) in which he demanded an end to Army’s interference in the country. Sharif expressed that the Army has gone from a ‘state within a state’ to a ‘state above the state’.

“This is the root cause of all our problems,” said Nawaz Sharif.

“Our struggle isn’t against (Prime Minister) Imran Khan but with the forces that have installed his illegitimate government to power,” he added

The former premier said democracy is when people are allowed to bring their opinions forward. According to the law, our democratic system relies on the opinions and say of the people.

“The democratic systems around the world follow the same principle. When public votes are not respected and the verdict is decided even before the elections, then we can guess how the people of this country are deceived and dodged by the authorities.”
