The arrest of Abid, main accused of raping a woman on the Lahore-Sialkot Motorway, has become a ‘mission impossible’ for the Punjab Police.
It has been 20 days since the incident of rape on the motorway but the police have not been able to arrest the accused so far.
It may be recalled that on September 9, a woman from Gujranwala was on her way to Gujranwala from Lahore with her two children in her car at around 1.30 pm when her car ran out of petrol near Gujjarpura on Ring Road.
The woman was waiting for her relative meanwhile, she also called the motorway police for help but the motorway police allegedly said that no one was on emergency duty and Beat of Gujjarpura has not been allotted to anyone yet.
According to the FIR, two armed men came from the forest adjacent to the motorway and smashed the car window and forcibly took the woman and her children to a nearby forest where the robbers raped the woman in front of the children. They snatched gold jewellery and cash and fled.
Police arrested Shafqat from Depalpur on the identification of Waqarul Hassan, a suspect named in the case, who confessed to raping the woman during interrogation while her DNA was also matched.
Abid, the second accused in the case, has been absconding for 20 days and the police are still unable to trace him and the case has become a ‘mission impossible’ for the Punjab police.
