CCPO Lahore Inappropriate remarks
The Lahore Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Umar Sheikh landed into hot water after he made a comment, blaming the victim of the heinous crime.
“I am surprised that a mother of three, a lone driver, after leaving the Defence area took this route. She should have taken the straight route from GT Road, which is a generally well-populated area,” he had said. In his remarks, the CCPO wondered why the woman took the route to travel and said that she should have checked her petrol tank before getting on the said route. He also said that the woman had thought that this is France where traveling alone at night is fine.
On Tuesday night, a woman, who was with her children was allegedly robbed and gang-raped by two men on the Lahore motorway within Gujjarpura police’s jurisdiction.
The woman was reportedly driving to Gujranwala in her car when she was forced to stop at the motorway after running out of fuel, at around 1:30 am. She immediately dialed the Motorway police helpline from which she received no response. She also shared her location with one of her relatives.
