Reopening of Schools: Final decision to be made today

The Government of Pakistan will make the final decision today regarding the reopening of schools across the country from September 15.

According to the details, the decision will be made in an inter-provincial meeting of education ministers.

Federal Minister for Education Shafqat Mahmood will chair the meeting which will also be attended by officials of the health department and Higher Education Commission to decide the strategy and SOPs regarding the recommencement of academic sessions.

The health ministry officials will brief the ministers about the current situation of the COVID-19 in the country.

Discussion on the single national curriculum, examinations in 2021, and short curriculum for the current academic year will also come under discussion, according to the agenda of the meeting.

The recommendations will then be presented to the National Command and Authority (NCOC) for further deliberations among all the stakeholders.

Educational institutions in the country were shut on March 13 in a bid to curb the spread of coronavirus.

Earlier Federal Education Minister Shafqat Mahmood has said that the final decision on the opening of the schools will be taken on September 7.

Addressing a press conference along with State Health Minister Dr. Faisal Sultan in Islamabad, Federal Education Minister Shafqat Mahmood said the children’s education suffered to a great extent due to lockdowns.

He said that Pakistan is witnessing a speedy recovery in the Coronavirus cases and has nearly won the war against the dread virus.
