At least two people died after a portion of a factory collapsed near Siemens Chowrangi in Karachi’s Sherhshah area.
According to the details, it is feared that multiple people are stuck under the debris.
The rescue operation is underway to recover others who are feared to have got stuck under the rubble.
The administration has also called for heavy machinery at the site.
There were three departments in the building. Reportedly, most workers had gone for prayers and lunch when the building collapsed.
According to an employee, the owner of the factory was informed about the weak building two months ago but no action was taken.
Building Collapse Incidents in 2020
Five buildings have collapsed in Karachi this year, killing more than 50 people.
February 2020
Earlier, in February a ground-plus-five storeyed residential building constructed on an 80-square-yard plot in Lyari’s Usmanabad developed cracks before tilting dangerously.
March 2020
A building built on plots of forty yards was five storeys high. The owner was also constructing the sixth floor when the whole building collapsed which affected two other buildings as well.
June 2020
In June, a five-storeyed residential building located in Lyari’s Kalri area collapsed, killing more than 22 people.
September 2020
The first incident happened on September 10 when a four-storeyed residential building in Allahwala Town in District Korangi collapsed last Thursday, killing four people.
The second incident happened on September 13, when a two-story building collapsed near a coal warehouse in the Lyari area of Karachi.
The building collapse left two dead and twelve others wounded. The injured were then shifted to Civil Hospital.
