PDM Quetta Jalsa: Preparations underway; govt. deploys security forces

The Pakistan Democratic Movement PDM Quetta Jalsa will be staged at Ayub Stadium in Quetta today, to put pressure on Imran Khan’s government.
According to the details, (PDM) on Sunday, in Quetta, will stage its third political power show against the PTI government.
Banners and flags of different political parties have been posted on major roads and streets across the city for the upcoming PDM rally.
Moreover, Mahmood Achakzai, Dr. Abdul Malik Baloch, and Akhtar Mengal have arrived in Quetta today, whereas, Jameet e Ulema-e-Islam Fazl (JUI-F) supremo Maulana Fazlur Rehman already reached Balochistan’s Kalat district yesterday while he will arrive in Quetta in the evening today.
The central leadership of PDM will be addressing the rally. This includes Jameet e Ulema Islam (F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman, Pakistan Peoples Party PPP chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari (Virtual), Pakistan Muslim League PML-N Vice president Maryam Nawaz and others.
Balochistan Government has placed a ban on pillion riding in Quetta ahead of the Pakistan Democratic Movement rally scheduled for Sunday.
The ban came into effect midnight (Saturday) and remain in place for 24 hours.
The Balochistan government issued a notification for the ban. Section 144 has also been imposed, which means a display of arms will also not be allowed in public.
The pillion riding ban will not be applicable to women, children below the age of 12 years, senior citizens, personnel of law enforcement agencies, employees of the essential services and journalists.
Around 11 opposition parties will be participating in the PDM Quetta jalsa today.
During the gathering, the government has directed to implement coronavirus standard operating procedures (SOPs) in order to curb the spread of the virus. All coronavirus SOPs will be strictly implemented throughout the gathering.
Attendees will not enter the venue without masks and sanitizers. The organizers will also have to install walk-through gates and sanitizers at the entrance and exit gates of the venue.
Cars will be allowed to be parked at a distance from the venue of the gathering. The temperature of the participants will be checked at the walkthrough gates. The PDM will arrange lighting at the venue and ensure there is no display of weaponry or fireworks at the venue.
PDM chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman had said on Saturday that the alliance’s Quetta jalsa will be held today at any cost.
He criticized the government for requesting the PDM to delay its jalsa, saying that the government should go home if it cannot provide security for a jalsa.
Earlier, the Balochistan government had requested the PDM to delay its Quetta jalsa in light of the recent terror threat.
