Tomatoes, onions to import from Iran due to high prices in Pakistan

Due to high prices in the country, Pakistan’s government has decided to import tomatoes from Iran.

A spokesperson for the Ministry of National Food Security said that tomatoes and onions will be imported from Iran due to high prices in Pakistan, and in this regard, the federal government has given a green signal.

According to the spokesperson, tomatoes and onions will be imported for one month only. He further said that permits have been issued so that importers can import as many onions and tomatoes as they want for only a month.

It is pertinent to mention here that on Saturday, the Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan had announced to take strict action against the rising prices of food from this week.

Prime Minister Imran Khan had directed Tiger Force to keep a check on the prices of essential commodities in their localities.

Taking to his Twitter handle, Imran Khan said:

“On coming Saturday I will be meeting with our Tiger Force at the Convention Centre. From now till then I want our Tiger Force to regularly check prices of daal, atta, sugar, ghee in their localities & post on the Tiger Force portal. Will discuss in Saturday mtg.”
