Mother of Nawaz Sharif and Shehbaz Sharif passes away
The mother of the former prime minister and current Supreme Leader of Pakistan Muslim League (N) Nawaz Sharif, Begum Shamim has passed away.
Begum Shamim Akhtar was 90 years old.
“Mian Nawaz Sharif and Mian Shahbaz Sharif’s respected mother has passed away,” senior PML-N leader Ataullah Tarar tweeted.
In February this year, Begum Shamim Akhter departed for London to see her ailing son Nawaz Sharif.
Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) spokesperson Marriyum Aurangzeb said Begum Shamim was advised not to travel in the light of her health and age.
But, she insisted to remain present with Nawaz Sharif as he undergoes medical treatment in London.
She passed away this morning, according to party sources, at the Avenfield Apartments where she was staying with Nawaz Sharif.
Begum Shamim Akhtar had been ill for the past week and her condition had been fragile due to her old age.
