Following the surge in positive Coronavirus cases in Pakistan, a senior doctor and founding director of National Institute of Child Health (NICH) passed away due to novel Coronavirus.
The deceased is Pakistan’s senior-most pediatric surgeon Nizam-ul-Hasan who has succumbed due to the deadly pandemic.
“With deep sorrow and grief we want to announce that Prof Nizam-ul-Hasan, who was the founder of the Child Aid Association and its chief patron, lost the battle against the coronavirus on Wednesday,” said Dr Tariq Shafi, the association’s current president.
He added that the late professor’s wife, who is also a physician, is infected with the coronavirus as well and being treated at private hospital.
Moreover, Professor Hasan was around 85 years old and survived by his wife, three sons, and a daughter. He added that the late professor’s funeral prayer was offered at a mosque in Defence Phase-VIII and later buried in a graveyard in the same area.
Pakistan has so far recorded 1,302 new infections and 26 deaths during the last 24 hours, whereas, the number of active cases of coronavirus spiked up to 15,317.
According to the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC), the total count of deaths reached up to 6,893 and 316,665 patients recovered from the virus.
32,376 tests were carried out for the detection of COVID-19 during the last 24 hours as the country has conducted 4,573,768 tests.
On the other hand, The Ministry of National Health Services Regulations and Coordination had written a letter to Prime Minister Imran Khan to seek permission for advance booking of coronavirus vaccines.
