Prime Minister Imran Khan will hold a meeting of the federal cabinet to the current political, economic, and coronavirus situation in Pakistan.
According to the details, the Federal Cabinet meeting is also likely to grant its approval on the placement of a minister’s committee regarding the final results of the sixth Population and Housing Census 2017 before the Council of Common Interests (CCI) for final approval.
Cabinet in its recent meeting raised questions over the performance of export-oriented sectors in terms of exports to the international market as there was no data available to verify benefits to the economy.
The cabinet while taking up the matter of registration of new units for getting incentives on account of electricity and liquefied natural gas (LNG) supply at discounted rates to the export-oriented sectors.
During the discussion, some cabinet members expressed the view that the export-oriented sectors (erstwhile zero-rated sectors) had been receiving incentives for decades without any data to confirm the benefits these sectors had brought to the economy.
Coronavirus Situation in Pakistan
On the other hand, the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) said that the novel coronavirus claimed 82 more lives in Pakistan during the past 24 hours bringing the national death tally to 9,474.
With the fresh inclusion of 1,704 new infections that were reported during the last 24 hours the national caseload now stands at 460,672.
As many as 1,852 patients have recovered from the virus during the last 24 hours and 2,398 patients are in critical condition. The total count of active cases is 40,261 and the positivity rate is recorded up to 4.9 percent.
