Rawalpindi: Man Convicted Of Raping Disabled Minor Gets Death Sentence

A District Court in Rawalpindi has sentenced a man convicted of raping a 12-year-old disabled girl, to death.

Additional District and Sessions Judge Jahangir Ali Gondal convicted 40-year-old Raja Ayub, a resident of Railway Colony.

In addition, a fine of Rs 5 lakh was imposed on the culprit, in case of non-payment of which he will have to serve 6 months imprisonment.

The judge said in the ruling that the culprit should be hanged until he dies.

Police said that a case of rape was registered against Raja Ayub in January 2019 at Ratta Amral police station.

It may be recalled that a few days ago, President Dr Arif Alvi had formally approved the Anti-Rape (Investigation and Trial) Ordinance 2020 to prevent rape cases in the country and bring the related cases to a logical conclusion.

The initial draft of the ordinance included a condition that the consent of the perpetrators of rape is obtained before castration, which was removed in the final draft.

The Federal Cabinet had in principle approved two anti-rape ordinances on November 25 to curb the incidence of rape in the country.

In view of the strong public reaction to the rising incidence of rape in the country, the government had announced effective legislation to prevent such incidents.

In the wake of the rising incidence of rape of children and women in the country, various quarters were calling for the public execution of the perpetrators.
