The accountability court declared Nusrat Shahbaz, wife of Shahbaz Sharif, a fugitive in the money laundering case.
According to the details, the accountability court in Lahore heard a reference against the Shahbaz Sharif family regarding money laundering and assets in excess of income. PML-N president Shahbaz Sharif and Hamza Shahbaz were produced in the accountability court.
The court also declared Shahbaz Sharif’s wife Nusrat Shahbaz a fugitive and ordered cross-examination of the three witnesses in the reference.
Shahbaz Sharif testified before the court, “In all the three periods, I did not receive any salary and did not commit any corruption.”
Other accused in the case, including Shahbaz Sharif and Hamza Shahbaz, have been indicted and the NAB was ordered to present its witnesses today.
According to NAB Lahore, the inquiry was started after receiving a complaint against Shahbaz Sharif from the SBP’s financial monitoring unit. In 1990, his assets were worth Rs 2.1 million and in 1998, his and his children’s assets were worth Rs 10.8 Million. Moreover, former Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif and his sons set up 9 business units from 2008 to 2018.
In 2018, the value of the assets of Shahbaz Sharif and his family reached close to Rs 6 billion due to anonymous account holders. Shahbaz Sharif and his family have amassed more than Rs 7 billion through corruption.
Shahbaz Sharif was released earlier on parole after the demise of Begum Shamim Akhtar.
The dead body of Begum Shamim Akhtar, the mother of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Shahbaz Sharif, was brought to Lahore from London.
Begum Shamim Akhtar, who was suffering from severe chest pain and worsening dementia, had passed away at the Avenfield apartments, where she was staying with her son, former prime minister Nawaz Sharif.
