Pakistan has recorded 1,895 new cases of the coronavirus during the previous 24 hours, bringing the national tally of infections to 488,529.
National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC), in its latest update, notified that 39 more people died in the past 24 hours, taking the death toll from the highly contagious disease to 10,350.
A total of 30,139 samples were tested, out of which 1,895 turned out to be positive. The national positivity ratio of infections was recorded at 6.28 percent.
There are a total of 35,722 active cases of the coronavirus while the number of recovered patients stands at 442,457. 2,242 of the Covid-19 patients under treatment are said to be in critical condition.
Sindh has so far reported 218,597 infections, Punjab 140,714, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa 59,484, Balochistan 18,247, Islamabad 38,263, Azad Jammu and Kashmir 8,357 and Gilgit Baltistan 4,867.
Exams Compulsory for Promotion
Minister for Federal Education Shafqat Mahmood said earlier that all the students of schools and colleges will ensure their participation in exams for promotion in the next classes.
In his statement, the Education Minister said the children of low-grade schooling have been affected due to the closure of institutions.
The Minister said all standard operating procedures would be followed after the reopening of educational institutions in the country.
As far as secondary and higher board exams are concerned, he said a little change in holding exams would be made so that students could prepare for better results.
Inter-Provincial Education Ministers Meeting
A Meeting of the Inter-Provincial Education Ministers will be held on video link today (Monday) with Minister for Federal Education Shafqat Mahmood in the chair.
The forum will discuss the prevailing situation of the second wave of Covid-19 and the reopening of educational institutions across the country.
The meeting will also deliberate upon the beginning of the new academic sessions from August and the reduction of spring and summer vacations.
