Pakistan has recorded 46 more deaths due to the novel coronavirus in the past 24 hours bringing the national death tally to 10,977.

According to the national COVID-19 dashboard 1,920 cases of COVID-19 were reported in a single day. After fresh inclusion of cases, the national tally of confirmed cases has risen to 521,211.

The Active Cases toll stands at 34,986, whereas with 1,589 more recoveries in past 24 hours, till now 475,228 have been recovered from the dread virus.

Schools Reopen

Across the country, schools were reopened today after a high level committee agreed on a phase-wise reopening of educational institutions.

Students from grade 9 to 12 returned to school with strict compliance of coronavirus standard operating procedures. Students of classes 8 and below will return to school from February 1.

Coronavirus Vaccine

Minister for Planning and Development, Asad Umar on Sunday said that the government has approved purchasing of coronavirus vaccine and it would be available in March.

He said the government has given approval of “AstraZeneca”, vaccine while discussion with a Chinese company, “Sinopharm” is also under progress.

Asad Umar said the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan has given green signal for importing the vaccine to protect the masses from corona virus.

He said priority would be given in provision of vaccine to health workers and the people falling between 60 to 65 years of age. He said around three hundred thousand healthcare workers have been imparted training for anti-corona vaccination.

The Minister also added that private sector can import the vaccine after following the necessary procedure.
