At least 609 petrol pumps have been sealed and about 4.5 million litres of petrol and diesel have been seized in the campaign against oil smugglers in the country.

According to the statement issued by, Prime Minister’s Office; the action is taken under the directions of Prime Minister Imran Khan.

The statement said, the campaign against oil smuggling, led by Ministry of Interior, is continuing unabated and showing significantly good results.

Moreover, the government has given an ultimatum of seven days to show the valid documents.

As per the statement, if the sealed pumps do not show valid documentation within seven days of sealing, these will be confiscated by the State under the Customs Act, along with all properties of the owners, as it would be deemed that these properties were acquired with smuggling proceeds.

This week, the anti-smuggling squad of the Customs sealed 13 petrol pumps during a crackdown for illegally selling the smuggled oil. The crackdown was launched on the directions of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) in various parts of the district.

The team sealed eight petrol pumps in Gujrat tehsil and five in Sara-i-Alamgir whereas show-cause notices have also been issued to the owners and management of sealed pumps who have been asked to submit their response within a week.

The AC Customs said it was suspected that the owners of these filling stations had been involved in selling the smuggled petrol and a proper chance had been given to them to explain their position within the stipulated time period.
