Pakistan COVID-19: Cases Drops To Less Than Thousand After Four Months

Pakistan has recorded 2,408 more coronavirus cases in the past 24 hours bringing the national tally to 506,701.

According to the statistics of COVID-19 National Dashboard, 41 more people succumbed to the dread virus that took the country’s death toll to 10,717.

As many as 3,606 recoveries were reported during the single day after which the number of total recoveries rises 461,977.

The active cases toll of Pakistan is currently at 34,007.

A total of 40,088 tests were conducted across the country during this period. Overall 461,977 people have recovered from the deadly disease so far while 7,162,626 samples have been tested thus far.

Governor State Bank of Pakistan Dr Reza Baqir on Monday while giving an interview to foreign media, said that he was optimistic about the economic outlook despite the fallout from the coronavirus pandemic.

Dr Reza Baqir said the country is in talks with International Monetary Fund (IMF) to put the fiscal support programme back on track.

It is pertinent to mention here that first batch of COVID-19 jabs from the Chinese vaccine manufacturing company Sinopharm will arrive in Pakistan by the first week of February

Dr. Faisal Sultan, a special assistant to the prime minister on health, said the “first installment of 1.1 million doses for about 500,000 people” will be received from Sinopharm.

Dr. Faisal Sultan said that authorities were negotiating with China and Russia, among others, to procure the vaccines, and that frontline workers and senior citizens will be inoculated first.

Immunization has already begun in EU countries, the US, UK, and many Gulf states. The vaccines approved so far include the ones produced by BioNTech/Pfizer and Moderna.
