PM saddened by deaths of Neelo Begum, Shahid Gondal

Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan has expressed grief over the demises of Veteran film star Neelo Begum and senior PTI Lawyers Wing leader Shahid Naseem Gondal. They both breathed their last on Saturday.

Prime Minister Imran Khan took to his Twitter handle soon after fame actor Shaan Shahid announced the death of his mother and wrote:

“My condolences and prayers go to @mshaanshahid on the passing of his mother.”

Prior to that, Imran Khan in his Tweet, while extending his condolences to the death of Shahid Gondal, said:

“Saddened to learn of Shahid Gondal s passing. He was one of our most loyal workers who stood with us during our struggle against the political mafias. My condolences & prayers go to his family.”

Neelo Begum Profile

Neelo was born on 30 June 1940 in Bhera, Sargodha. Cynthia Alexander Fernandes was her real name.

At 16, she appeared in Bhowani Junction (1956), a Hollywood film shot in and around Lahore. Neelo was an acclaimed actress who rose to fame for her work in film “Aaye Mausam Rangeelay Suhanay“.

She also won the Best Actress Nigar Award for film Zarqa (1969). It had superb music by Wajahat Attre and was sung by Mehdi Hassan.

Film Zarqa (1969) was produced and directed by Riaz Shahid who also wrote its screenplay. Neelo helped her husband, Riaz Shahid, produce this film and it became the best known film of her career.

Shahid Naseem Gondal was a famous Lawyer and chief law officer of the Capital Development Authority, Islamabad. He died after contracting the novel coronavirus.
