Jati Umrah land case: NAB Summons Maryam Nawaz on March 2
The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has summoned PML-N Vice President Maryam Nawaz in the Jati Umrah land case.
According to sources, NAB has directed Maryam Nawaz to appear before the Joint Investigation Team on March 2 at 11 am.
The previous hearing, on August 11, 2020, was adjourned after a clash had erupted between outraged PML-N workers and police when Maryam Nawaz reached the accountability watchdog office.
PML-N workers who accompanied Maryam Nawaz from Jati Umrah to the NAB office had hurled stones at security officials and tried to break the barriers outside the anti-corruption watchdog’s office.
In response, the police resorted to aerial firing, shelling and baton charge to disperse the infuriated crowd. Several protesters including women were arrested. Following the violent situation, the NAB had postponed the hearing.
On the other hand, Maryam Nawaz had alleged that police pelted her car with stones.
Maryam Nawaz is accused of illegally buying land in Raiwind. NAB had sought reply from Maryam Nawaz on 1,440 kanals of land.
NAB has asked Maryam Nawaz where the money for purchasing land came from. How much tax and how much duty was paid for the purchase of land. If any of the 1,400 kanals of land has been sold, provide details. Moreover, explain the purpose for which the acquired land is being used.
