Pakistan on Wednesday kicked off its coronavirus vaccination drive across all federating units with first jabs administered to frontline health workers.

According to the details, the vaccination drive launching ceremonies were simultaneously held in Islamabad, Sindh, Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provinces and Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan.

Minister for Planning and Development Asad Umar  initiated the national immunization drive in special ceremony.

Asad Umar thanked all the stakeholders and political leaders who work jointly in country’s fight against the virus.

Chief Ministers of all provinces, including Gilgit Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir Prime Minister participated in the ceremony via video link.

In Karachi, Chief Minister Sindh Murad Ali Shah started the province’s inoculation drive at a ceremony held at the Ojha Campus of the Dow University of Health Sciences where a number of frontline warriors were vaccinated against the coronavirus.

Minister for Information and Broadcasting Senator Shibli Faraz said today that people are being benefited from the successful strategy of Prime Minister Imran Khan regarding COVID-19 vaccination.

In a tweet, he said that starting the vaccination campaign simultaneously in all provinces is a practical step that the federal government is providing equal chances to all federating units. He said that provision of health and job opportunities to people are the priorities of the government.

Science Minister Chaudhry Fawad Hussaini also said that everyone panicked during hard times amid coronavirus pandemic but Imran Khan stayed calm.

On Tuesday, Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan urged all health care workers to get vaccinated as the South Asian nation of 220 million launched its vaccine drive at a ceremony in the capital where a doctor was the first in the country to officially receive a dose.

On the occasion, Prime Minister Imran Khan said that he congratulated his entire team, including China, who worked hard.

He said, “500,000 vaccines have been received from China”.

Prime Minister Imran Khan stressed that ” at first the COVID vaccine will be given to the medical staff”.

“In the second phase, the vaccine will be given to those who are most at risk of coronavirus,” he said.

Imran Khan said that the distribution of vaccines in all the provinces will be fair, no one should think that we have distributed more vaccines in any one province.

“It is very important for you to get vaccinated because the risk is highest for medical personnel,” he told the medical staff.

It is pertinent to mention here that 56 more people died of Covid-19 over the last 24 hours, taking the total tally to 11,802.

According to the latest statistics, 1384 new cases of coronavirus surfaced in the country during the last 24 hours after the tests of 35,460 people. There are now 33, 184 active cases in the country. 504,046 people have so far recovered from the disease. While 8,041,254 samples have been tested thus far.
