Pakistan, Sri Lanka Face Same Challenges, says PM Imran Khan

Prime Minister Imran Khan has arrived at Colombo, Sri Lanka on Tuesday, where he was received by his Sri Lankan counterpart Mahinda Rajapaksa at the airport.

Prime Minister held a key bilateral, high-level meeting with Sri Lankan Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa and his delegation at Temple Tree, PM House of Sri Lanka.

According to details, Prime Minister Imran Khan while addressing a press conference with his Sri Lankan counterpart said that he was grateful to the Prime Minister of Sri Lanka for the invitation and excellent hospitality.

PM Khan highlighted the ongoing coronavirus pandemic and its deadly effects the poor countries.

“Poor countries are affected by the coronavirus pandemic, Pakistan has a population of 220 million, we could only give a package of 8 billion dollars, but Pakistan is now fighting against the novel virus.”

Imran Khan recalled the first time he visited Sri Lanka and said,

“I came to Sri Lanka when I started my cricket career, the role of the Sri Lankan team in giving Test status is still remembered today.”

PM Khan invited Sri Lanka to promote its economic and regional ties through Pakistan.

“Through the CPEC [China–Pakistan Economic Corridor], economic ties can be extended to Central Asia and Sri Lanka,” said PM Khan.

He called Pakistan an “important component” of the CPEC, which would “open new avenues for the development of regional ties”.

Imran Khan also said that Pakistan and Sri Lanka had faced the same challenges as terrorism in the past.

“Pakistan was the worst victim of terrorism for 10 years while Pakistan lost more than 70,000 lives in the war against terrorism.”

Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan is in Sri Lanka for a two-day visit where he will hold talks focusing on increasing trade and investment.

According to the details, Imran Khan with his delegation landed at Bandaranaike International Airport in Colombo. Upon arrival, Prime Minister Imran Khan was presented with the Guard of Honour.
