On Tuesday, the Pakistan Supreme Court (SC) has stopped National Accountability Bureau (NAB) and Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) from investigating Peshawar Bus Rapid Transit Project.

According to the details, the court heard two petitions against the project. One was filed against 2018 Peshawar High Court judgment in which it ordered NAB to investigate the BRT system in the city.

In the order of first petition, the Judges remarked that they feel it is “appropriate to refer the matter to the NAB authorities to conduct a proper investigation. However, that order has now been declared null and void.

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government had challenged the verdict. Its appeal has been approved. The court said that the high court’s judgment was based on speculation.

Whereas, the second petition was filed against FIA investigation into the project. The court has extended its orders to stop FIA’s investigation and told the KP government to submit a written reply in the case.

Prime Minister Imran Khan had inaugurated the BRT bus service and regarded it as one of the flagship projects of the PTI government.

The BRT project, built at a cost of Rs70 billion, is a 27.5 kilometre-long corridor track with 31 stations and seven feeder routes stretching 62km with 146 stops to facilitate thousands of passengers every day.
