The lights of Prime Minister House will be turned off tonight (Saturday) to celebrate the annual Earth Hour.

As per the details, all non-essential lights in the PM house will be turned off from 8:30 pm to 9:30 pm tonight.

Prime Minister Imran Khan has said in a message that improving the environmental conditions is the top priority of the government.

What is Earth Hour?

It has become an annual tradition that people around the world shut down electric lights for one hour. The practice was started by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF).

According to the international news source, the aim of doing this was to motivate individuals, communities, and businesses to switch off non-essential lights for an hour as it symbolizes their commitment to the planet Earth.

The first earth hour was celebrated in Sydney in 2007. According to details, WWF had motivated 2.2 million people to turn off their lights for an hour. This was done to raise a voice against climate change. Soon after that, it gained much recognition worldwide.

People across the world will mark the hour by lighting candles and celebrating unity. This will be considered the first-ever “Virtual Spotlight” Earth Hour.

The official website of WWF reads, “This year, we invite you to spread the same message and re-create the same unmissable sight online by taking part in our first-ever Earth Hour Virtual Spotlight.”
