The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Monday said that the Punjab government has made NA-75 Daska by-election ‘controversial’ by appointing officers of its own choice.
According to the details, in its written reply on the NA-75 Daska election case filed in the Supreme Court, the Election Commission said that government officials and political representatives violated the code of conduct.
ECP said that the district administration had failed to control the law and order situation. The failure of the district administration led to serious violence on Election Day. Due to law and order situation, appointments and transfers were banned in Daska.
The situation deteriorated in 40 constituencies during the elections, an ECP official said.
The Election Commissioner wrote a letter to the IG and Chief Secretary Punjab regarding the killings and firing incidents.
ECP said that the Punjab government did not cooperate with the Election Commission in the Daska elections that led to the declaration of polling as null and void.
Earlier, the Election Commission of Pakistan decided to reschedule the NA-75 Daska by-elections. According to the announcement made by the top electoral body, the by-polls will now take place on April 10, 2021.
