The government has demanded the officials of the Election Commission of Pakistan to collectively ‘resign’ as they have failed to ensure transparency in elections.

According to the details, in a hard-hitting press conference along with Shibli Faraz and Fawad Chaudhry, Education Minister Shafqat Mehmood lashed out at the top electoral body and said that ECP failed to act as a neutral empire.

Shafqat Mehmood said that Election Commission has betrayed the trust of the people. He said that a new Election Commission should be formed which should be trusted by all and which will work and execute its responsibilities in a transparent manner.

In addition to this, Shafqat Mehmood said that the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) and the members of the Election Commission should resign immediately.

Shafqat Mehmood said that Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI) is the largest party in the National Assembly and Senate and the party has lost its confidence in the Election Commission.

He further said that no reference will be filed against the top electoral body. The minister recalled that Prime Minister Imran Khan wanted the Senate election to be transparent through an open ballot process. The Education Minister said that the Prime Minister has always said that the Senate election should be cleansed from hors-trading of votes.
