The polling process for posts of Senate Chairman has been completed.

According to the details, the polling for the Senate chairman ended after 98 senators voted in the elections.

The two voters that did not vote were Ishaq Dar, who is yet to take oath of officer. While JI Senator Mushtaq Ahmed abstained from voting.

Jamaat-e-Islami Senator Mushtaq Ahmed abstained from casting his vote in the elections. The senator’s name was called twice by the presiding officer Muzaffar Shah but he did not get up from his seat. The senator had already announced that he will not take part in the elections after his party boycotted the polls.

The ballot boxes were opened for the senators to see and were sealed after they were satisfied. Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haideri of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (F) casted the first vote. According to the presiding officer Muzaffar Shah, the polling process will go on till 5pm.

Before the polling, the presiding officer explained the procedure for the Senate elections and asks the candidates and their polling agents to check the polling booth.

Sadiq Sanjrani of Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI) is up against Pakistan Democratic Movement’s (PDM) joint candidate Yousaf Raza Gillani for the position of Chairman Senate, whereas Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haideri of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (F) will be in a poll fight for the slot deputy chairman against PTI’s Mirza Muhammad Afridi.

Results

Result of the election for the slot of Chairman Senate will be announced on the same day and the successful candidate will take oath of his office and preside over the remaining session.

The new chairman will conduct election for the office of deputy chairman senate and administer oath of the returned candidate.
