Polling for the by-election in National Assembly constituency NA-75 Daska has ended and counting is underway.

Polling began at 8 a.m. and continued uninterrupted until 5 p.m.

Ali Asjad Malhi of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Nosheen Iftikhar of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) competed in the by-elections while Khalil Sindhu of Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) also participated in the by-elections.

The total number of voters in the constituency is 494,000 for which 360 polling stations were set up out of which 47 were declared sensitive.

Police and Rangers patrolled the polling stations throughout the day and no untoward incident was reported from anywhere.

Violence erupted in the last by-election on February 19, causing panic this time around, leading to a markedly low turnout.

During the by-elections, there is a public holiday in the constituency while strict security measures were taken to maintain law and order and more than 4,000 police and more than 1,000 Rangers personnel were deployed.

In addition, 10 teams of the Pakistan Army were present as Quick Response Force.

Section 144 was enforced in the constituency on the occasion of by-elections, which resulted in a ban on the display of all kinds of weapons.

For transparent and peaceful elections, the Chief Election Commissioner himself was monitoring the elections.

Police Arrest Nine Armed Men Outside Polling Station

Nine armed men have reportedly been arrested near the polling station during the by-election in NA-75 Daska.

The Satra police have taken the men into custody over the violation of section 144 in the Aguchak area of Daska.

Police said that Kalashnikovs, two pistols, a rifle have been confiscated from the arrested men whereas two vehicles have also been seized.

The Election Commission of Pakistan has confirmed the arrests for showing arms in Satra.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf and Pakistan Muslim League- Nawaz members clashed outside the polling stations. They were seen chanting slogans.

Police personnel have reached the scene and are dispersing the members.
