Former Deputy Chief Engineer of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has challenged the official report of ATR plane crash case in Sindh High Court (SHC) on Thursday.

According to the details, a petition was filed in the Sindh High Court on behalf of former PIA Deputy Chief Engineer Khalid Mumtaz. It was stated in the petition that the plane that crashed was defective from 2013 and there is complete record of plane’s fault available.

He appealed that all ATR aircraft should be grounded immediately. The PIA administration was informed about the malfunctioning of the plane. The petitioner maintained that the report submitted by Civil Aviation (CAA) and PIA is fake and all ATR aircraft should be grounded and inspected.

After hearing the petition the court then sought reply from PIA and Civil Aviation over the matter.

It may be recalled that on 7 December 2016, PIA Flight 661, a domestic passenger flight from Chitral to Islamabad, operated by an ATR 42-500 twin-turboprop, crashed near Havelian.

All 47 people on board, including singer-turned-preacher Junaid Jamshed and the Deputy Commissioner of the District of Chitral died in the incident.
