National Highways and Motorway Police on Tuesday morning informed that all motorways across the country are now opened following the protests by the Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP).

According to the spokesperson of National Highways and Motorway Police, all the Motorways (M-1, M-2, M-3, M-4, M-5, M-9, and IMDCW and E-35) are currently open for all kind of traffic. Police and Rangers have been deployed at Faizabad Interchange in view of possible protests. The entry points of the twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi were previously closed for traffic, leading to more problems for citizens of both cities.

The major sit-ins broke out in all major cities of the country following TLP chief Saad Hussain Rizvi’s arrest in Lahore on Monday. Lahore police chief Ghulam Mahmood Dogar said Rizvi was detained to “maintain law and order”. TLP workers blocked roads and thoroughfares across the country, putting traffic out of gear and travellers stuck in vehicles. Due to the protest, the metro bus service was suspended in Rawalpindi. Protesters gathered on the metro track and pelted stones on police personnel, who were in riot gear.
